Grow Your Business, a Unique SPJIMR Programme for Entrepreneurs, All Set to Launch Batch 18

MUMBAI, June 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

SPJIMR, a top ranked school of management, is all set to commence the monsoon batch of one of its most innovative programmes, the Grow Your Business programme, popularly called the GYB.

Enrollments are open for what will be the 18th batch of the programme, which has over the last five years carved out a niche for itself and has seen more than 200 entrepreneur-participants pass out.

The 18th batch of the programme ( is scheduled to commence from July 9 and applications for the batch will close on July 5.

The GYB programme accepts only entrepreneurs, founders or key decision makers in small businesses, making for a classroom of like-minded business persons brought together by their interests in growing their ventures and the Institute's mandate of offering them a path to accelerated growth.

Batch sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 participants per batch to enable a personalised approach to learning and to help focus on individual needs.

The GYB programme is delivered over seven weekends, a schedule that does not disturb the regular running of the business. It enables participants to return to their work stations during the week days to apply their learnings and build on the ideas offered during the in-class interactions.

The programme is designed and delivered by SPJIMR's noted faculty, many of them professionals with rich industry experience. The faculty includes practitioners, professionals who consult with SMEs and financers.

The GYB programme positions itself as an offering that 'helps you transition from an owner to a CEO who can build and actively lead a team of professionals'. The GYB programme philosophy is based on the premise that past success has to be reinforced with current management inputs to ensure continued success.

Besides developing the CEO potential and capabilities of participants, GYB also enables the preparation of an individual growth plan for the venture with opportunities to present the plan to a panel of SME experts and bankers. While the plan will be supported by the participant's financial advisors and the GYB tutors, it will bear the stamp of the individual participant's vision and goals for their specific venture.

The programme recognises that management inputs have to be relevant to the scope of the participant's business and to the sector norms. The profile of SPJIMR's core, adjunct and visiting faculty ensures the required fit between participant expectations and programme content. This is supplemented with domain experts who are called in to add to the programme content and drive even higher value for the participants.

The GYB programme stands out as a hybrid model that balances a classroom approach with a consultation approach, lending it an edge as a well-rounded learning process that offers generalised as well as customised knowledge fitted to the individual needs of the participant.

Said Prof. M S Rao, who heads SPJIMR's GYB programme, "The business environment is so complex, changing and competitive that jugaad and business-in-the-blood competency have to be updated with professional business knowledge for profitable and value-based growth. The key question is, can a seven-weekend programme provide this professional management knowledge?"

"SPJIMR's GYB programme proves that this is possible when the participant is already into business, has acquired customers, handled working capital, recruited staff, developed products or services - and is eager to put in more efforts for better results," Prof. Rao added.

He said the GYB not only provides a certificate from SPJIMR but also links every participant to a business-friendly network for life.

The programme is conducted in two formats, public and customised. The public programme has participants from varied sectors (manufacturing, services, trading, new economy, emerging sectors) and the customised programme caters to dealers/vendors of corporates.

Dealers of corporates like Danfoss India, Grundfos Pumps and vendors of Kiroloskar Oil Engines have gained from participating in the customised programmes.

As Mr.Vikas Jhawar, Managing Director, Texorange Corporation Limited, who is alumnus of GYB batch 3 and the winner of the top SME award, at India SME Forum, the Ministry of Small & Medium Enterprises, said, "SPJIMR's GYB programme has not only broadened my vision and goals, it has also strengthened my ability to face the odds. I have now developed a distinctive approach to face the growth challenges in my business."

Mr. C V Kushe, alumni of GYB Batch 12, said, "The programme helped me understand the changing role of an entrepreneur in the organisation, why most startups fail to make it to next level, how to prioritise growth over daily fire-fighting, what to look for in people when recruiting and why hiring right people can be the single-most important factor for growth. This coupled with the importance and various ways of performance tracking, learning and getting valuable suggestions from other batchmates makes the programme invaluable."

Mr. Kushe added, "Most importantly, the GYB programme is an awakening for what's truly important to make a company great with lasting results and helps underline how we neglect these important aspects out of ignorance and in our hurry to achieve more without laying the right foundation."
